Presentation
The rehabilitation of the former water reservoir towers, two industrial structures of cylindrical form dating back to the late 1800s and the early 1900s, is part of the programme of restoration of Budrio’s ancient town walls, as well as of programmes designed to enhance and give value to industrial monuments of historical significance.
The design project, which was awarded first prize in the fourth edition of the “100 Cities Prize” (Premio Centocittà), aims to rescue a historically important, symbolic structure from progressive deterioration and to assign it a new role by redefining the volumes as multi-functional spaces for the development of cultural and social activities.
This is a significant architectural work of striking impact, containing within it the memory of water which has always been a defining element in the construction of the territory in these lowland areas.
Inside the Torri dell’Acqua, the spaces are characterised by great fluidity and flexibility, which facilitate constant variation in mounting exhibitions, productions and events.
The task of managing the centre has been entrusted to the Cocchi Foundation (Fondazione Cocchi), which will create a programme of top level cultural and social events in collaboration with Budrio Municipality and with the businesses of the area, most notably with the Prosthetics sector.
